Ask the patient the following questions. If ANY apply, MAC is required. Moderate sedation can only be booked if NO criteria are met, or if overridden by staff.

BMI over 35 or diagnosed with Sleep Apnea (OSA) Currently on Dialysis (End-Stage Renal Disease) Requires supplemental oxygen or has severe COPD/Asthma Severe systemic disease (ASA Class III or IV) Currently taking chronic opioids or benzodiazepines (controlled substances) History of intolerance or failed moderate sedation in the past Severe anxiety or specific patient request for deep sedation Provider preference for MAC (per physician notes) NONE of the above apply.
